The first gunshot froze the rally. The second shattered it. Panic ripped through the crowd instantly while hundreds of people surged in every direction at once and the noise became overwhelming so fast that my brain struggled to process any of it. People screamed and motorcycles crashed. People yelled through megaphones and somewhere inside the chaos someone kept shooting. “Down.” Knox barked. His arm wrapped around my waist before dragging me behind and overturned vendor stand and another gunshot cracked through the rally grounds hard enough to send fresh waves of panic tearing through the crowd. The worst part wasn’t the shooting. It was the stampede. Thousands of terrified people all trying to escape through the same exits. I watched a woman lose her footing near the food
