Gunfire cracked again somewhere deeper in the woods while shouting followed immediately after and both of us turned sharply toward the sound. “South side.” Heath yelled from somewhere nearby. Drake moved instantly and I followed without hesitation. Branches snapped beneath our boots while flashlights cut ciolently through the dark around us. We reached the lower fence line seconds later where two club members crouched behind an overturned bike and one of them held his bleeding arm while swearing furiously. “They fired from the ridge and vanished. They knew exactly where we’d be.” He snapped. I looked toward the hill above us while my pulse slowed instead of rising and the pattern clicked together so fast it almost annoyed me. “They’re testing response time.” I said immediately.
