She asked me to leave her alone, I tried. I really did, for two days I didn’t call her into my office. I didn’t look for her in the halls but it was like trying not to breathe. I became more aware of her than ever, it was a quiet obsession.
I noticed small things. She liked her coffee black, she tapped her pen twice before starting a task. She stayed late every Tuesday, i found myself making changes that felt protective. I approved a budget for better lighting in her department, i told security to be more visible on our floor after hours. It was subtle, no one would connect it to her but I did it for her.
