Ellie's Pov
Jax and I spent more nights together. He stayed over most times but a week later things changed. I was at the library checking out books for Mrs Harlan. She was an older lady who came in every Tuesday. She leaned close while I scanned her romances.
“You know about that Ryder boy don’t you?” she asked quietly but loud enough.
I looked up. “What about him?”
“He just got out of prison, did time for assault. A bad fight in a bar years ago, he broke a man’s jaw. Everyone says he is trouble. You should be careful dear, i saw you leaving with him the other night.”
My stomach dropped. I finished her books quick and handed them back.
“Thank you for the warning,” I said but my voice sounded far away.
She patted my hand. “Just looking out for you.”
After she left I could not focus
