I sat at the kitchen table and stared at my phone. Mom had taken it away again last night after Mr. Blake left. She gave it back this morning but told me not to use it unless it was an emergency.
I didn't care. I wasn't planning to call anyone anyway.
Dad was in his office on the phone with someone. I heard him mention Cole's name a few times. Mom sat across from me, her eyes red from crying. She hadn't stopped crying since yesterday.
She looked at me. "The police called this morning. They want to question Cole today."
I kept my face blank. "Okay."
"They might want to talk to you too," she said quietly.
"I didn't do anything," I said.
She didn't respond. She just looked down at her coffee cup.
