PERSEFONE POV I heard the click of a lock before I saw the door. Somewhere to my right. Hidden enough from my sight that I hadn’t noticed it immediately, which was annoying because I hated when evil laboratories had better architecture than my visual span. Then the smell hit me. Antiseptic, metal and latex, with a hint of chemical bitterness undertones. And something underneath all of it that made my stomach tighten before my brain had a name for it. That same sterile rot from the needle. Wonderful. My new least favorite perfume. Eau de mort (aka water of death).
