One second I was sinking somewhere warm and gold, wrapped in Eden’s exhaustion like a blanket made of sunlight and love, and the next something ripped through the night so violently it hooked into my bones and pulled. I came up gasping inside my own body. Which would have been more useful if my mouth had belonged to me. It didn’t. Because apparently my life had become a very exclusive horror experience where I got all the trauma of being present without any of the practical benefits, like moving my limbs, screaming at people, or punching whatever new monstrosity had decided to apply for a starring role in tonight’s disaster.
