Rachel stood a few steps away, clutching her books to her chest like they were a shield, cheeks flushed from clearly having followed Liam without knowing why.
“I’m sorry,” she said quickly. “I didn’t mean to intrude. I just saw Liam leave and you looked…” Her voice faded as she glanced between us. “Is it Perse?”
I opened my mouth.
