Ezra We set out from the house at dusk. Joy held my hand, and Alex held Kristen’s hand. Within a few minutes I knew exactly where the kids were taking us. The waterfall on the mountainside was a popular spot, and there was a wide and well-worn trail leading through the woods and up the hillside to the place where a small stream cascaded over a ledge of slate and crashed into a hollowed out bowl below. It was beautiful to look at, but a dangerous and treacherous place to swim. The slate was both slimy and sharp in places, and the force of the water hitting the pool created a rolling current which could easily pull a weak swimmer underwater.
