Selene's POV
Victor's jaw worked. I could see him struggling with the decision.
"There's something else you also need to consider," I said carefully.
"What?" Victor asked, his voice rough.
"Your sister, Vanessa. She is not well, Victor."
His eyes narrowed slightly. "What do you mean?"
"She suffers from bipolar disorder. Doesn't she?"
Victor's expression changed. Just barely but I saw it.
"How did you know that?" he asked.
"I pay attention," I said simply. "And I have seen the signs. The mood swings. The impulsive decisions. The way she can be perfectly rational one moment and completely out of control the next."
Victor let out a slow breath. "Yes. She was diagnosed years ago. Our mother tried to keep it quiet. Thought it would reflect poorly on the family."
