Elias regarded Lucius coolly, His expression was hardly welcoming. I knew my mentor was standing up for me.
Lucius seemed momentarily taken aback.
Nevertheless, Lucius recovered smoothly, showing no sign of feeling slighted. "Nothing in particular. I just wanted to wish you a happy holiday."

As he spoke, he moved to step naturally between Julian and me, but the man he'd been talking with caught up and interrupted.
