"Landon later found out that Leah and Patricia were the ones causing issues between us, and he wanted to fix it, but I was over it. I knew we would never have peace if we were together; his mother and sister would never accept me, and they might harm me and you. Leah had a son by then, so they wouldn't mind her son inheriting everything even though it was all Landon's sweat. We just couldn't get back together," she said, bowed her head in silence.
I didn't need anyone to tell me that she was still in love with him but had just accepted they would never be. My heart shattered, and I understood why she spoke about rich people in a certain way. I would have ended up like her had Richard not dared it all. Unlike Richard, Landon was at the mercy of the Randolphs. It was a sad story.
