I rushed back to the hospital, my business done. I knew that the leader was secure where she was, but her smirk as I left had been disconcerting. I had to see Kara—make sure she was okay. And I had to find out if it was true that she was my true mate. I couldn’t believe it, but after all that I’d just found out, it didn’t seem as impossible as it might have just a day earlier. In some ways, it made sense. And most importantly, the rogue leader’s words had the ring of truth. I didn’t see any motivation for her to lie to me about that. Besides needing to be near Kara and make sure she was safe, I wondered if being in her company would tell me the truth about what we really were to each other.
