Another heavy snowstorm rolled in after dinner, even fiercer than the night before. The wind howled like a wild animal around the cabin, shaking the windows and piling snow against the walls. Harper and Quinn had just finished eating when the generator sputtered and died, plunging the tiny space into darkness except for the glow of the wood stove. “s**t,” Quinn muttered, grabbing the lanterns from the shelf. She lit two of them, and soft golden light filled the room. “Looks like we’re back to basics tonight.” The temperature dropped fast.
