Why did Eve just say Sean’s mom was late? Did I hear her correctly? I pinched the bridge of my nose, trying to process the words.
“His late mom?” I asked, my eyebrows etched in confusion. “I thought Sean’s mom was sick and that was why he wanted a contract with me.”
Eve’s expression widened. “Did I say late Mom?” She asked with an awkward laugh. “I’m so sorry, I meant to say sick mom.”
I folded my arms around my chest. “Are you lying right now?” I could see how uncomfortable she had become after trying to correct herself.
Without hesitation, she shook her head. “No, no… I don’t have any reason to lie to you. It was just a slip of the tongue.”
I let out a deep sigh. “Okay, if you say so.”
