Evelyn’s POV
I’m still trying to gather my wits at Kane’s sudden appearance as I register his warmth against the side of my body. My focus locks onto the rude way that Kane decided to interrupt, once again claiming his territory.
I push against his body, trying to wiggle out of his arms, but he easily stops me from pulling away. He still holds me, keeping me in place beside him.
“Alexander didn’t mean any harm,” I tell him. “He was just being nice and trying to check on me.”
To this, Kane answers with a low hum that rumbles in his throat, seeming to be unconvinced.
“Kane…,” I begin. However, Alexander finally speaks up.
“She’s right,” he begins. “Just one childhood friend to another. Nothing more. I was just…curious. You understand, right?”
