Evelyn’s POV
The Alpha King laughs at Kane’s joke, causing a small smirk to fall on Kane’s lips.
“Don’t worry,” the King begins. “As wonderful as she is, I’d never steal your wife away from you.”
Kane nods at that. “Wise decision,” he muses, pulling another laugh from the Alpha King.
The King is then turning to Alexander, pointing toward one of the many decorations that he is impressed by. Kane seems to use the Alpha King’s moment of distraction as his opening to take a step closer to me.
“Evelyn,” he begins in a murmur, his joking and smiles nowhere to be found as he glances down at me with curiosity. In fact, I can’t help but sense a slightly awkwardness in him as he clears his throat.
“Well done,” he continues. Those two words alone make my heart jump.
