My whole body went stiff as I stared down at her. I narrowed my eyes and swallowed back my frustration. “So this is about Olivia, then.”
Evelyn merely shrugged. “I just wasn’t aware that she would be staying so long,” she commented lightly.
Evelyn still refused to look at me. That was enough to “Look, you heard what happened to her mate. She needed somewhere to stay—”
“Did she?” she countered. “It’s not as though her previous pack dispersed, leaving her without a home. I do feel sorry for the fact that her mate passed; that’s not something I’d wish on anyone. However, you’re the one who insisted that she stay here.”
