JJ was smiling at her phone when I came out of the bathroom. Nixx noticed too, although he pretended to keep reading whatever was on his laptop.
“What?” he asked.

I climbed into bed beside her. “Careful, sweetheart. He keeps a detailed inventory of your facial expressions.”
She turned the screen toward us. Millie stood in front of her finished mural, pointing proudly at a purple motorcycle surrounded by yellow flowers. White dandelion seeds drifted across the painted wall.
