(Cassidy) I heard him before I saw him. Not Dane. Zander. "Cassidy." I turned around and there he was. Standing in the water a few feet away from me like it was the most normal thing in the world. Like we ran into each other at the beach all the time. Like the last time I'd seen him he hadn't run across a parking lot because Dane had reached into his jacket. I stared at him. "Zander." "Small world," he said. "Apparently." "I didn't know you came here," he said. "We don't usually," I said. I was already aware that this conversation needed to end fast. Not because I was scared of him or because I felt anything about seeing him. Because Dane was somewhere behind me and I hadn't looked back yet and I didn't need to look back to know he'd already seen us. "How are you?" Zander asked
