We reached our section and shut the door behind us. The quiet finally settled properly.
Cassidy dropped onto the couch and let out a long breath. Not tired exactly. Just done with the day in the way you got done with days that had asked a lot from you before noon.
I sat beside her.
She leaned into me without being asked.
"This was a lot for one morning," she said.
"Yeah," I said.
"Good a lot," she said. "Not bad a lot."
"I know the difference," I said.
She was quiet for a moment.
"So do I," she said. "That's new."
I laughed and rested my forehead against hers. "You know," I said. "I was thinking exactly the same thing."
She pushed me back gently and stood up. "I'm going to take a shower. Join me or not, that's your problem."
