I heard Dane's truck before I saw it through the window. He'd been leaving early and coming home late for days, and even when he was here, part of his mind was somewhere else. I understood why, but I was tired of sharing him with whatever was happening at Devil's Reach. I went to the door as his truck stopped outside.
Dane climbed out and spoke briefly to one of the brothers watching the house. I couldn't hear what he said, but something about him seemed different today. He wasn't checking everything around him before coming inside. He walked straight toward me.
