I left the compound not long after Mira and I got back. The ring stayed with me the entire drive home. I kept thinking about where I could hide it without Cassidy finding it. Living with someone this long made keeping secrets a pain in the ass.
When I pulled into the driveway, Cassidy's car was where I'd expected it to be. I took the ring box out and looked at it before getting out. Taking it inside meant finding somewhere she wouldn't look. Leaving it in my truck wasn't happening either.
I finally slipped it into my jacket pocket and headed inside. Cassidy was at the dining table with several folders in front of her. She looked up when she heard me come in. I hoped my face wasn't giving anything away.
"You're home."
"Looks that way."
"How was work?"
"Same as usual."
