I waited until the next evening. Cassidy had spent most of the day doing things around the house, and I hadn't done anything else to make her suspicious. The ring stayed hidden where I'd left it. Keeping my mouth shut about it was harder than I expected.
I got home before Cassidy and decided to make dinner. That could've been my first mistake. I could cook, but whether the food actually tasted good was another question. Cassidy had reminded me of that enough times over the years.
Cassidy came through the door while I was checking the food. She put her purse down and walked into the kitchen. Her eyes went from me to the stove. The look on her face told me exactly what she was thinking.
