When I regained consciousness, all I could feel was pain. My body was in agony, burning in ways I’ve never felt before. But that was nothing compared to the agony in my mind.
I struggled to hear and understand what Kaylani said to me. I’m not sure many things could have gotten through the raging inferno in my head but hearing that my dragon would be killed did it.
I realized that the inferno, the fury that was blazing in my head was Kenna. I know my mate, better than anyone. I know that while her fury burns hot, it also burns off quickly. It’s pain and anguish that ignite the hottest fires inside her and if left unchecked, she will burn herself out. And when I woke, my mate was burning so hot I knew she’d burn herself and everyone around her to ash.
