Veronica’s POV
My heart raced as I answered the phone, my mind racing with worst-case scenarios. "Hello?" I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Veronica, it's Maria, Alejandro's teacher. I have some terrible news. Alejandro has been kidnapped from the school playground."
My world came crashing down around me. "What?! Oh no, Maria! How did this happen?"
"We're not sure yet, but the police are investigating. They'll be contacting you soon. I'm so sorry, Veronica."
I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. Bruno, who was sitting next to me, grabbed my hand, concern etched on his face. "What's wrong?" he asked, already knowing something was terribly wrong.
