I didn't visit Adrian for three days.
Part of it was the Ravenshield restoration project—paperwork, approvals, coordinating with the historical preservation board.
The kind of tedious administrative work that usually would have driven me insane but now served as a welcome distraction.
The other part?
I couldn't look at him without seeing those scars. Without remembering what he'd endured in Africa. Without thinking about the self-hatred that had driven him to hurt himself further after coming home.
I was only human. Even with a baby growing inside me—a baby that desperately needed me to stay calm and stable—I still wanted to scream. To cry. To rage at this cruel f*****g world that had broken such a strong man into pieces.
