In the car, Wendy continued complaining that Marcus hadn't defended her, that he'd let Gloria humiliate her.
But Marcus suddenly cut through her weeping with a firm tone. "Winter's in the registry now. She has the Storm name. From now on, she's a legitimate Storm daughter."
"What do you mean?" Wendy's voice sharpened.
"Wendy, this is what you've always wanted, isn't it? You told me to reclaim my power—wasn't that for our daughter's sake?"
A sense of dread crept over Wendy.
Was Marcus actually going to give up?
"What are you saying?"
"Our daughter has a good future ahead of her now. Wendy... let's leave Ravenport. Just the two of us. We can finally live our own lives."
Marcus's tone was still gentle, but Wendy could hear the finality in it.
