“Miss Stone, Mr. Knuckles is here.”
I looked over and Darren walked in from behind Jim. I smiled and got up from my seat.
“Guess what, I'm going to be an auntie,” I told him, trying to keep my enthusiasm. I kissed him on the cheek and wrapped my arms around his arm.
He kissed the top of my head and the knots in my stomach eased a little. I looked over at Gia, she gave me a big encouraging smile.
“Congrats, baby,” he said. Then he looked at Joel and Gia. “Congratulations.”
“Thank you,” Gia and Joel said.
We waved goodbye, and he took my hand as we walked to his bike.
Before he handed me my helmet, he turned and gathered me into his arms.
“I’ve missed you. I’m sorry I’ve been so busy. I’ll tell you all about it when we get to our destination.”
