I was just done with a conference meeting when my phone started ringing. I pulled it out of my pocket and saw that it was Jamie who was calling me.
What did she want?
I answered the call and pressed the phone to my ear as I walked back to my office. “What’s going on?” I asked Jamie, my voice laced with curiosity.
Jamie exhaled heavily. “She’s back in New York.” Her voice was filled with urgency.
My interest became piqued. “Who? Who is back in New York?” I asked.
“Layla.”
A chill ran through my spine and I froze as I heard her name. I haven’t heard her name in a long time. What was she doing in New York?
