“How did your lunch go? Why is she back in New York all of a sudden?” Jamie asked as she settled down on the couch across from me.
I sighed, not satisfied with the outcome of our meeting. “She left abruptly, we didn’t get to talk for long,” I replied, the frustration evident in my voice. “Layla only came here for a business trip.”
A part of me hoped she had finally moved back to New York. But she was just around for a limited time. Very soon, she would return to Japan and I wouldn’t be close to her anymore.
Jamie raised a brow. “Did she say why she came to our restaurant?” She asked, her voice laced with curiosity.
“Layla had no idea that it belonged to our family,” I replied. “It was just a coincidence.”
