I read the email again, checking the date. Charles had instructed Laura to keep watching Amelia and Ethan months before they returned to New York. Emilia claimed she'd only told him about Ethan after their return. Either she had lied, or Charles had learned about my son from someone else.
"Does it say how Charles found out about Ethan?" I asked. I placed the paper on my desk. "Did investigators recover anything else?"
"They're still examining Laura's account," Daniel answered. "This came from a deleted folder." He checked his notes. "They haven't recovered the messages that came before it."
I read the final paragraph again. Charles had worked with my father for years and understood the family investment account. Ethan's existence could affect the authority Charles once held
