I looked toward the living room again before answering Daniel. Laura Bennett had admitted working for Charles, but she'd claimed she was only hired to gather information. Now money from Emilia's company had reached her account. I wanted to know whether the payment matched anything she'd told investigators.
"How much did she receive?" I asked. "And when was the payment made?" I moved farther from the living room. "I want to know whether it happened before or after she started watching Amelia."
"She received forty thousand dollars in April," Daniel explained. "The payment description says consulting services, but there isn't an invoice attached to the records we received." He paused to check another document. "Investigators are comparing it with Laura's previous statements."
