“Well, this is unexpected. You actually called me?”Regina sounded surprised when she answered.
There was no accusation in her voice.
I got straight to the point. “How are you feeling?”
“I’m fine. I’ve been fine for a while.”
“Good.”
There was a temporary pause. “Is that all you called to ask?”
I was already thinking about ending the call when she added, “Because I wanted to ask you something too.”
“What?”
“Do you have a new boyfriend?”
My eyebrows drew together. “Who told you that?”
“I wouldn’t say they were making it up. They seemed pretty convinced.”
She paused. “Apparently he’s a Parker. Jonathan Parker’s grandson?”
She didn’t say Ryan’s name, but there wasn’t exactly another possibility.
I cleared my throat. “I don’t know how to explain this.”
