I didn’t even open my eyes.
“There are plenty of things wrong with me. You don’t have to act like a curious little kid and figure out every single one.”
What was he talking about?
I wasn’t acting strangely. I was frustrated.
I was exhausted from dealing with him.
“Is work going badly?” he asked. “Or did something else happen?”
I knew he was avoiding the subject of changing my job.
I’d never told him I hated my work, so apparently he guessed that something else had happened.
I said nothing. Instead, I looked him up and down.
