“No,” I answered honestly.
“If he finds out, will it cause trouble for you? From everything you’ve told me, your ex-husband sounds difficult.”
For a second, I almost said, Congratulations. You got that exactly right.
But I swallowed it. I couldn’t say that.
“It’s hard to say.” I shrugged. “I don’t think it’ll cause much trouble.”
If Jaxen found out, then so be it.
It wasn’t like Ryan and I were actually dating.
If things went badly, I’d tell Jaxen I was only trying to make money and wouldn’t apologize for making it.
If he wanted to make a scene, I’d leave.
“Do you want me to explain everything to him if that happens?”
Ryan didn’t seem bothered by the idea.
He was willing to step in and tell Jaxen the truth if that would keep the situation from affecting me.
