Gary had found out today that Ryan was my “boyfriend.”
I did not know how loudly Gary planned to announce it to everyone.
And I did not know how long it would take for the news to reach Jaxen.
Once it did, I had no clue what kind of mess I’d be dealing with.
So now, even talking to Ryan on the phone while Jaxen was nearby made me feel strangely guilty and uneasy.
“I’m sorry about today.”
Ryan’s voice pulled me back.
“I didn’t ask Tony Peterson who else he’d invited. I didn’t realize it would make you uncomfortable.”
He’d clearly spent some time thinking about whether he should call.
“It’s okay. You don’t need to apologize.”
I didn’t think he’d done anything wrong.
