Nikolai Vetrov ~•~ I woke up before either of them. Rafael was almost sprawled diagonally, his hand over his eyes like he was trying to shield them from the sun. The curtains weren’t drawn yet. It was still dark. Serena’s body was curled into mine. As soon as I asked her why she wasn’t sleeping last night, she went to sleep immediately, as if she was avoiding the question. I brushed my thumb against her skin lightly. She didn’t stir. Then again, she hadn’t slept until two o'clock in the morning. Careful not to wake her up, I gently pulled out my arm from under her waist and slid out of the bed. Rafael shifted, but didn’t wake up otherwise. I stepped out onto the terrace, watching the morning waves. Being by a beach was nice. Maybe I’d live somewhere by a beach after retirement.
