“Are we late?” Alexis breathlessly asked as she and Caden arrived.
The waiting room was crowded with both their families. Despite the sudden cold snap and early snowfall, they had all come out, eager to meet the baby as soon as it was born. Only Isaac didn’t look particularly thrilled to be there, but she didn’t pay him mind.
“No, right on time,” Augustus said. “We’re still waiting.”
“Where’s Theo?” Alexis looked over the group.
She saw the three dogs curled up with Toby, Tina and Caitlynn. The canines seemed anxious, but the younger kids were distracting them as well as entertaining the adults. It helped keep the atmosphere relaxed while they waited.
