By the night before the wedding, the Varkos estate had worked itself into a frenzy.
Florists hurried through the corridors carrying silver roses. Caterers occupied every available corner of the kitchen. Servants moved furniture, polished glass, and rearranged tables that had already been rearranged twice.
My people and I had nothing left to do.
My belongings had been inventoried and sealed. Grace had checked the legal documents one final time. Stella was completing the last of her handover notes, while Velvet sat beside my open window, calmly mending a loose button on her traveling coat.
In the middle of the chaos, we were probably the four most relaxed women in Moonreign.
