Emma's POV.
"I'm heading out for a few supplies." I heard Joseph talking to Manfrid. "Behave yourself while I'm away." His voice had a distinct warning in it. Manfrid didn't answer him. A few seconds later. I heard the car start and drive away. This was the first time that Joseph had left with the car. That had to mean that he would be gone for a while. This was my opportunity. I only have Manfrid to worry about now. The fact that Joseph had taken the car made things a little more complicated, but I could deal with that. The rain had cleared up and a thin layer of snow was starting to cover the ground. If Joseph was heading out for supplies, it meant that there had to be a town nearby. If I could just get there, I could try and call Shaun. I could make it. I knew it.
