Emma's POV. Manfrid was ruthless as he dragged me through the woods, back to the tiny cabin. I can't remember having run this far. It felt like he had been dragging me forever. All I could do to make it more bearable was grab onto his arm so that he wasn't pulling on my hair so much. He dragged me over rocks and roots and branches that had fallen to the ground. The ground was hard and cold and wet. My clothes were already soaked through. I was freezing. My entire body was shaking. My mind was racing. I only had one opportunity to get away and I blew it. I shouldn't have stopped so much. I should just have kept running. I should have stayed on the river bank. Sure, I would have been more exposed, but it would have been an easier path to take, and I would have been able to run even faster.
