The week in California was amazing. Yes, it was great seeing my family again, but it was even better getting to spend every minute of every day with Wendy. Now that we’re home, she’s back in Yorick and Cyra’s pack, and I’m back at the Academy.
“How was your trip?” Tracker asks when I go to check on her.
“Incredible. What did I miss?”
“I got what we needed on Leo. It’s enough that he’s not going to be released. Conspiracy to commit murder doesn’t sit well with the Council, especially when our newest councilman, who is set to take over in a week’s time, is the father of the woman they conspired to murder.”
“Damn, I’ve missed you.”
She blows me a kiss, then refocuses on what she’s been working on.
“Hijack is still out in the field. We did have an ugly discovery there.”
