Night falls over Moonridge. The moon is full tonight. Bright. Beautiful.
I walk into our room. Aria is standing by the window looking out at the forest. Her hand rests on her belly. Our daughter moving inside her.
"Come with me," I say.
She turns. "Where?"
"The moon pool. I want to show you something."
"Kael, Dr. Monroe said I should rest."
"I know. But this is important. I'll carry you if you get tired."
She studies me for a moment. Then smiles. "Alright. But if I go into labor out there, you're explaining it to Dr. Monroe."
"Deal."
We walk out of the pack house together. The forest is quiet. Peaceful. So different from how it was a month ago when we were preparing for war.
The walk takes twenty minutes. Aria stops twice to catch her breath. I offer to carry her but she
