Lumi’s POV We’re still outside, still too close. And I’m still standing by the car door like I didn’t just agree to this. The night air feels cooler now, but it doesn’t help. If anything, it makes everything sharper. The silence between us, the space that isn’t really space, the fact that I can feel him there without even looking. Clover leans closer to me, her voice dropping into a whisper that isn’t nearly as small as she thinks it is. “Please don’t start an attitude now. We need to get home alive.” I don’t look at her.
