"It's okay if you wanna look," she whispered. "I like if you think I'm pretty."
"Beck, everyone thinks you're pretty," he teased.
"I don't care about anybody else. You're special."
"Hey, you two. What are you whispering about over there?" their mother said, just now noticing the extra close huddle her oldest kids were in.
"Uhh, we're just talking about Christmas," Becky said, none too convincingly.
"Like two peas in a pod, just like always," her mother said, rolling her eyes.
Ellen was happy to have her only son home for the holidays again. She had her whole family together, and Chad knew his presence was providing a much needed distraction from Becky's bad luck with college.
