Isla looked at the reports after everyone left. I had already read them twice, and there was more in them than I'd expected. The first pages weren't about Derek, Helene, or any of the others. They were about Ashcrest.
"What happened?" Isla asked.
"Nothing bad."
She looked at me. "Then why do you have that look on your face?"
"Because Ashcrest has changed."
I opened the first report. The three wolves I'd appointed before we left were still leading the pack under Crown supervision. Every report required of them had been submitted, and there had been no attempt to return to the way things had been under Rodan. Ashcrest was becoming something different.
"They're still leading the pack?" Isla asked.
"All three of them."
"And it's working?"
"Better than I expected."
