When all of the main preparations were made, I focused on other things, like timing and who should give toasts and speeches and the like. These preparations didn’t need to be decided with anyone in person, so I could stay home to work on them.
That was vitally important to Damien, it seemed, as he refused to leave for work on days that I had planned to leave the house. Only today, after I promised him I would stay home, did he go to the office.
I still didn’t totally understand his motives. Every time I asked him if he was okay, he assured me that he was. Despite my gentle prodding on the topic, I could never get much more than that out of him.
