“How can you say that?” I said in response. For my child, I had infinite patience, but she wasn’t making things easy.
Seeing her as she was now, so insecure and shaken, so easily taken advantage of by the master of this house, I wanted to shake her. Where was the brave and bold girl I had watched grow up from the shadows? Had Amelia’s appearance and her family’s betrayal affected Sienna so much that she totally lost all confidence?
That must have been it, and it was one more reason to hate Amelia and all she had taken from my daughter.
