She stood strong, crossing her arms across her chest. She did not cower in the face of my rage. Instead she straightened, like a lighthouse in the storm, unwilling to bend under my crashing waves. “I tried to compromise with you, and you wouldn’t listen to me,” she said. “You still aren’t listening to me. I had to be here. This was important. I’m not – and I will never allow myself to be – a prisoner in my own home. I won’t let the fear win, and seeing you do so, makes me feel ashamed.” A low growl escaped my throat. I loved this woman with whole of my heart.
